Nigerian Navy takes delivery of new warship donated by United States

Giving a navy ship away might sound like a foolish move until you dig into the whole message.

As it stands now this country is still sending ships to ward off pirating in the area although the first ship that we donated is doing a very good job, with this 2nd ship we will no longer need to patrol the area.

We are donating an old coast Guard ship to a friendly country.

NNS Okpabana is a Hamilton-class high endurance cutter which formerly served with the U.S. Coast Guard as USCGC Gallatin (WHEC-721).

Gallantin was laid down at Avondale Shipyards on 17 April 1967
